Analysis of Global and Russian Practices of Using Alternative Fuels in Railway Transport

The article analyzes the global and domestic experience of using alternative fuels in railway transport. The technical and economic aspects of using liquefied natural gas and biofuels are considered. Special attention is paid to Russian developments: GT1h gas-turbine locomotives and TEM19 diesel locomotives. Based on a comparative analysis, promising development areas have been identified for Russian Railways.
