Formation of PVD coatings for tribological purposes

Abstract

TiCrZrNbHf coatings were applied using the vacuum arc spraying method in the presence of nitrogen in the chamber and in its absence. The structure and elemental composition of the coating were analyzed using a scanning electron microscope and an energy dispersive spectrometer, the mechanical properties of the coating were measured using the nanoindentation method. The degree of wear was investigated using a tribometer by the “ball–disc” test method. Based on the conducted studies, the influence of the presence of nitrogen in the chamber during coating was assessed.
